Problem: 

A major glass recycling facility in Australia was struggling with severe conveyor belt carryback on a reversing system equipped with mechanical fasteners. The site’s existing secondary cleaners delivered inconsistent and inadequate cleaning performance, allowing material buildup that required over 30 hours of manual cleaning each week. This not only drove up labour costs, safety issues and caused significant downtime, but was compounded by the lack of ongoing technical support from the previous belt cleaner supplier. 

Solution: 

Flexco was invited by the site’s distributor to conduct a detailed audit and recommend a more effective belt cleaning solution. After assessing the operating conditions, Flexco recommended installing two R-Type® secondary cleaners fitted with tungsten carbide tips. The R-Type® was selected for its proven performance on reversing conveyors, providing consistent cleaning in both directions of travel. The C-Tips were chosen specifically for compatibility with mechanical fasteners, ensuring reliable blade-to-belt contact while minimising wear and preventing damage to the belt or cleaner. This solution was backed by ongoing technical support, routine site visits, and performance monitoring by the local Flexco representative and distributor to ensure long-term optimization. 

Result:

Following installation, the R-Type® cleaners reduced carryback by approximately 85%, significantly improving cleaning efficiency and overall system reliability. Cleanup maintenance dropped from approximately 30 hours per week to just 4 hours, delivering substantial labour and cost savings. The site has expressed strong satisfaction with Flexco’s improved performance and consistent on-site support and has since begun implementing additional Flexco solutions across the facility.
